SWINE INFLUENZA (H1N1)

The Ministry of Health, Qatar advices all residents of Qatar to postpone non-essential trip to USA, Mexico, Canada, UK and other countries which report confirmed cases of swine influenza. 

 

The MoH recommends all travelers from and residents of Qatar who traveled to the above mentioned countries to watch out for fever and flu like symptoms for at least 10 days after their return.  If anyone develops fever or flu like symptoms inform the CDC by the hotline 6740 -948 / 6740-951.

 

Clinicians should consider swine influenza infection in the differential diagnosis of patients with febrile respiratory illness and who traveled recently to or were in contact with persons who had febrile respiratory illness in the above mentioned countries during the 10 days preceding their illness onset.

 

 

Please immediately notify all such cases to the Communicable Disease Control Section through the Hotline 6740-948 / 6740-951.

 

Remember: The most effective way to prevent the spread of Influenza is by:

 

Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.	Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
Try to avoid close contact with sick people. Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.	If you get sick with influenza, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
